Coconut Grove Miami
The upscale Coconut Grove is Miami's oldest neighborhood. Many wealthy professionals originally made their home here side by side with artists and bohemians, and now Coconut Grove is a mixture of both posh, upscale homes and small, quaint cottages.
The Village of Coconut Grove is one of the best places to see here, with its redbrick sidewalks and many trendy places to visit. Over 300 art galleries make their homes on these streets, as well as endless restaurants (many with sunny patios perfect for eating extended meals on during those sunny afternoons!), trendy boutiques, historical sites, nightclubs and street performers. For a relaxing break from the throngs of people, try visiting the area near the water where there are many biking and walking trails that wind through the trees and along the shore. Those looking to do some shopping will love the multilevel CocoWalk, a huge mall with tons of shops as well as restaurants, bars and movie theatres.
Artistic types should try to visit Coconut Grove around February, when it hosts its annual Arts Festival. This renowned event features over 300 of the country's best artists and attracts over three-quarters of a million people each year. This is the perfect time to pick up some art for your home as well as just take in the creative vibes of some of the most innovative artists around.
Other must-see attractions in Coconut Grove include the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a beautiful renaissance-style villa that belonged to James Deering, an early 20th Century Chicago Industrialist. Kids of all ages will enjoy the Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium and the Barnacle State Historic Site, the oldest standing pioneer home in Miami.
